Data Network Engineer

Job Responsibilities:

The Wireless Data Network Engineer’s responsibility and overall purpose is to ensure the life, functionality and growth of the NTELOS wireless data network, as well as play a leadership role in the design and implementation of network practices and services. The Wireless Data Network Engineer will have the sole responsibility of the core data network, relative to a hierarchical model.
  • Plan and engineer MPLS, VoIP, Video/IP, Metro Ethernet, MPLS VPN’s (L2/3), ATM/FR and familiarity of SS7 networking.
  • Provide expert trouble resolution for escalated core network troubles.
  • Partner to lead the planning, design, implementation and optimization of new network products/services.
  • Perform after hours support duties to sustain networking systems and service levels – 24/7/365.
  • Develop, document, implement and maintain processes and procedures related to service delivery.
  • Partner with peers to ensure reliability, availability and scalability thresholds are maintained.
  • Provide guidance and technical training to technical support staff as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of routing and switching from Core to Distribution layers.
  • Working knowledge of network hardware design and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of design, implementation and maintenance of BGP, OSPF and IS-IS protocols in a carrier data network.
  • Ability to implement industry standards and “best practices” relative to data networking.
  • Competencies: Leadership, confidence and vision.
  • Education/Experience: 4-year technical degree and/or equivalent training and minimum of 4-6 years of experiences pertaining to the data networking industry.

Experience:
  • Routing Disciplines: IPv4, IPv6, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, SNMP, MPLS, ATM/FR, QoS, MCGP/SIP, SONET, and Mulitcast
  • Equipment Experience: Enterprise/Carrier routing platforms (routers, switches voice gateways, etc.) and Network transport platforms (DWDM, SONET, DACS, etc.)
  • Core Routing: Previous experience maintaining a multi-state core network strongly desired.

Sr. Network Engineer/Network Engineer II

The Sr. Network Engineer/Network Engineer II is responsible for integrating new initiatives into existing architecture while looking for opportunities for improvement in all network elements that the Wireless Engineering team supports. The primary responsibilities include performance engineering and support and building of translations for (4) Alcatel-Lucent packet switches and (2) Nortel MTX's, Alcatel-Lucent USDS-HLR, Airwide and Alcatel-Lucent SMSC's, AirWide OTA and Movius voicemail platforms. This individual should have the expertise to use command line interfaces to look at configurations within the platforms, create statistical graphs using data produced by the systems and pinpoint areas of concern and need for improvement. Additional skill sets and traits are as follows:

  • Demonstrated experience successfully interfacing with internal customers regarding network issues and service solutions in meeting objectives for the wireless business. Candidate should have a strong ability to express himself/herself clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Has the skills and knowledge necessary to fulfill all aspects of a technical support role as well as demonstrated ability to work alone/unsupervised.
  • Above average analytical skills and demonstrated excellence in troubleshooting issues within the network and working the issue to resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading large scale cross-functional projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and enjoys collaboration.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SS7 ISUP and IS41 protocols is a requirement.
  • Experience with scripting in UNIX and databases like SQL and Access desirable.
  • Bachelor degree in engineering or ITS discipline preferred and/or 5 years equivalent experience in Alcatel-Lucent or Nortel MTX translations.

Sn RF Engineer

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the local RF Teams
  • Monitor system performance metrics daily to identify discrepancies, trend performance, and identify anomalies
  • Present executive performance summaries to the VP and Director of RF Engineering, Operations, and Performance
  • Support Corporate RF and EVDO department requirements by researching technical literature, performing field review of EVDO issues, evaluating EVDO customer troubles, etc.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned at the Manager’s discretion to meet the needs of the company’s daily activities

Familiarity with any of the following would be beneficial:

Senior RF Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the RF team.

  • Working closely with Operations Team to ensure all discrepancies are resolved in a timely fashion
